  • Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, vulnerable adults, and elders to the authorities, including Indiana Department of Child Services and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.
  • If the therapist has reason to suspect that the client poses an imminent risk of harm to self or others.
  • If a safety plan has been established in the course of the client’s treatment, therapist may break confidentiality in certain circumstances in which the client’s willingness or ability to continue following the safety plan is in question, and the client poses a serious threat of harm to self or others. In these cases, emergency contacts may be notified in addition to emergency services and/or law enforcement to ensure client safety.
